The Arsenal · The Data Sculpture

Your archive, turned into one living sculpture.

Every photo, listing, post or product you have ever made becomes a single tile. Thousands of them fly through 3D space and form shapes that tell your story: when you made it, what it was about, how much there is, and whose it is. The last shape is your logo.

Play with the live one

These are 942 New Deal posters from the Library of Congress, 1936 to 1943. Drag to spin it. Scroll or pinch to zoom. Point at any tile to see its title, year and subjects.

  1. The Megaphone. Every poster on one horn, oldest at the narrow end. Gold rings mark where each new year starts.
  2. Campaigns. Groups by the Library's own subject tags: theater, health, war and defense, art shows, travel and more. Threads join posters from the same state.
  3. The Wall. All of them in date order, with three pulled out full size.
  4. The Rooster. The same tiles poured into our logo. For you, it's yours.

The 48-second reel

The same piece as a vertical video, ready for Reels, TikTok and Shorts. It opens on a title card, never a blank frame, and ends by telling people how to reach you.

  • A dive through the horn. The camera flies into the megaphone and the archive turns into a tunnel.
  • A live readout. A crosshair locks onto real posters and shows each one's title, year and subjects.
  • The reveal. The posters fill the rooster, the gold mark lands, and the banner reads Old content ≠ dead content.

Their reel vs. ours

The idea came from a data-art reel that turned a university poster archive into a 3D sculpture. It is beautiful, and it took one artist and one archive. Here is what changes when it is built as a machine.

Questions

What is a data sculpture?

A video and a live web piece where every item in a collection (a photo, a post, a listing, a product) becomes one small tile in 3D space. The tiles move between shapes that each tell you something true about the collection: when things were made, what they are about, how much there is, and finally whose it is.

What collection is in the demo?

942 posters made by the Works Progress Administration between 1936 and 1943, from the Library of Congress WPA Poster Collection. The Library lists them with no known restrictions on use. Years, subjects and states come straight from the Library's own catalog records.

What can a business turn into one?

Anything with a picture and a date: every home you have listed or sold, your Instagram grid, a product catalog, event photos, a review wall, past projects. The last act pours the whole collection into your logo.

Are the groupings made up?

No. Every group, ring and thread comes from data that is already in the collection: the date, the category or tag, the location. Nothing is labeled by guesswork, and the sources are named on screen.

What do I get?

A vertical reel for Reels, TikTok and Shorts with a cover frame and an ending that tells people how to reach you, and a live version for your website that visitors can drag, zoom and hover to see what each tile is.

Can I get one for my business?

Yes. Text Rudy one line about what you have: photos, listings, products or posts. A person reads it and answers.

What would yours look like?

Tell us what you have: photos, listings, products or years of posts. We'll turn it into a sculpture that ends on your logo. Text Rudy one line. No form.
